Visiting beautiful Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu, India

Kodaikanal, one of the most popular hill stations of South India, is located in the Pali Hills at an altitude of approximately 2133m.Known for its scenic beauty and wonderful climate, Kodaikanal is frequented by hundreds of thousands of tourists from all over the world as well as the world. Kodaikanal is accessible by air, train or by road. It is located at a distance of 135km from Madurai, 170km from Coimbatore airport. One shouldn't miss the scenic drive up the hills, with the numerous "hair-pin" bends adding a bit of thrill to the experience.

One of the major tourist spots here is the man-made Kodai lake which is at the heart of Kodaikanal. The Kodai lake is spread over an area of about 60 acres and provides the perfect setting for a romantic boat ride. Love is always in the air as couples-young ones on a honeymoon or old ones, perhaps reliving some wonderful memories-enjoy boating in the lake.

The Coakers Walk, named in honor of Lt.Coaker who was successful in conquering the once-insurmountable hills, is another popular tourist attraction. The view of the plains and the surrounding area from Coaker's walk is simply breathtaking.

Other places of tourist interest in Kodaikanal include Kurinji Andavar temple dedicated to Lord Muruga, Pillar's Rock, Dolphin's Nose, Bryant Park, Berijam Lake- a star shaped lake located at a distance of 21 km from Kodai (one needs special permission to visit the lake) and Kukkal Caves which is at a distance of 40 km from Kodai.

Kodai also has a lovely 18 hole golf course which stretches over an area of 6426 yards.

Home to the "Kurinji flower" (Strobilanthus Kunthanus) which blooms once only in 12 years, picturesque Kodaikanal is a sight to behold for any lover of beauty.
